Environmental Policy
Members of the Ontario Forest Industries Association (OFIA) are committed to conducting their activities in a way that is consistent with the principle of sustainable development, which recognizes the need for a healthy environment in balance with a vibrant economy. Members will ensure that the principle of sustainable development continues to guide their actions, for the benefit of current and future generations.
In addition to conforming to all provincial and federal regulations, member companies will implement the following principles within their own business strategies. They will:
plan and operate their facilities to prevent or minimize any adverse impact on the environment, or on the health of employees and the public.
work to ensure healthy, sustainable forests, through forest management activities that are consistent with the OFIA Code of Forest Practices.
employ the most progressive management practices to continually improve environmental performance.
reduce waste, where possible, through manufacturing techniques that increase the use of by-products and the reuse and recycling of materials.
develop, with government and the public, scientifically and economically sound environmental regulations and policies.
support research activities designed to develop environmentally sound techniques, processes and practices.
communicate with employees and other interested groups and individuals to build a greater mutual understanding of environmental issues.
continually strive to reduce energy consumption and use energy more efficiently.
