Longlac Wood Industries is a major producer of Decorative Hardwood plywood (Multi-core and veneer core), value-added products such as DRIcore™ (a revolutionary new subfloor system) and Pre-finished Multi-core panels, as well as industrial and structural random waferboard. Its specialty product is a composite panel called Longlac Multi-Core®, which combines waferboard and veneer. Sold throughout Canada and the United States, Longlac products are used to manufacture a variety of finished goods, from fine furniture and kitchen cabinets, to store fixture designs and do-it-yourself remodeling projects.

A subsidiary of Montreal-based Kruger Inc., Longlac operates a waferboard mill and a hardwood plywood mill on the same site, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay, in Longlac, Ontario. Together, these mills have the capacity to produce 161,000,000 square feet of waferboard and 124,000,000 square feet of hardwood plywood annually, from species such as birch, maple, cherry, red and white oak, ash, knotty pine and mahogany.

Through licensing agreements with the Ministry of Natural Resources, the company is responsible for the sustainable forest management of 7,000 hectares. Its woodlands strategy is to minimize waste and maximize fibre by making use of the entire tree length. In March 2001, Longlac’s environmental management system was certified to the ISO 14001 standard. This applies to all of the woodlands activities on operations licensed to the company, including those—such as harvesting and other silvicultural practices—conducted by independent contractors.

Headquartered in Mississauga, Longlac Wood Industries directly employs more than 400 Ontarians, and indirectly employs many more.
