Grant Forest Products Inc.
When Peter Grant Sr. formed Grant Forest Products Inc. in 1980, he created a family business out of what had long been the family industry. At the time, four generations of Grants had worked in the forest products sector, beginning in the late 1800s. In forming his own company, Mr. Grant—who had been plant manager of the Elk Lake Planing Mill since 1968—built one of the industry’s first oriented strand board (OSB) mills. Located in Englehart, Ontario, this plant remains the largest producing structural panel board mill in the world. In 1998, Grant purchased a second OSB mill in Timmins, Ontario. A third mill, a joint venture in Alberta, started production in October 2000.
Grant (Ontario) obtains wood from more than 25 management units, and is a partner on several Sustainable Forest Licenses.
